Frieda & Solomon Rosenzweig Professor of law, Hebrew University Law School. Prof. Kaplan’s research touches on all areas of private law, with a focus on remedies and the law of unjust enrichment. In addition to his ERC grant, Prof. Kaplan is the recipient of multiple awards and research grants, including an Israel Science Foundation (ISF) grant, a German Israel Foundation (GIF) grant, the Junior Scholar Cheshin Award for Academic Excellence in the Field of Law, the Addison-Brown Writing Prize (Harvard Law School), the Polonsky Prize for Best Tort Law Article (TAU), and an Outstanding Lecturer Award (BIU). His work appears in leading journals such as the Cornell Law Review, Georgetown Law Journal, Northwestern Law Review, Vanderbilt Law Review, and the Journal of Legal Studies, among others. Before joining academia, he served as a clerk for Chief Justice Dorit Beinish of the Israeli Supreme Court, practiced law in a leading commercial firm, and received his doctoral degree from Harvard Law School.

Ayelet's research involves developing an interdisciplinary approach to the emerging field of law and technology. As technology continues developing at neck-breaking speed, the proper legal response must be based on a meaningful understanding of the technology at hand. Ayelet's primary research interests focus on platform governance and power, privacy and data protection and bridging the gap between law and computer science. Ayelet has published papers and presented her work both in legal venues and in venues committed to promoting collaboration between legal scholars and computer scientists. 

Ayelet was a postdoctoral Fritz Fellow at Georgetown University and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Benin School of Computer Science and Engineering. 

 

Ohad Somech

Ohad Somech is a Lecturer at the Netanya Academic College School of Law, where he teaches law and technology and corporate law. Before joining the Law School, Ohad was a post-doctoral fellow and manager of the BIU Law Data lab. His research interests include emerging technologies, regulation of markets and digital platforms, as well as private law and theory. Ohad completed his LL.B. (with honors) and his B.A. in psychology at the Tel-Aviv University, where he also wrote his Ph.D. dissertation, entitled “Contractual Regret: A Psychological Perspective,” under the supervision of Prof. Nili Cohen and Prof. Roy Kreitner. Ohad completed his LL.M. studies (first in class) at the universities of Bologna and Hamburg as part of the European Program for Law and Economics (EMLE). He was awarded a scholarship from the Bucerius Institute. Upon completing his Ph.D. studies, Ohad was a post-doctoral student at the Sciences-Po Law School and later at Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University.

Shay's research focuses on civil claims within the family domain. Her research explores the innovative application of unjust enrichment law as an additional civil remedy, complementing tort law and contract law, to address issues like paternity fraud, refusal to grant a religious divorce, and coerced parenthood. Her article on paternity fraud was cited by the Israeli Supreme Court and earned the BIU Law Review Best Article Prize. Shay is a President Fellow in the BIU Outstanding Doctoral Students program, a recipient of a Yahel-Recanati Foundation research grant, a research fellow at the College of Management Faculty of Law, and she interned in the commercial litigation department at Goldfarb, Gross & Zeligman. In addition to her current research into family law and unjust enrichment, Shay has worked as a TA and RA in fields including tort law, contract law, property law, antitrust law, intellectual property law, and consumer protection law.

Niv Meirson’s research focuses on environmental law, climate law, and the role of oil giants in the climate crisis. He is a member of the Climate & Environment Legal Clinic and works with the Firefly Association (NGO), promoting environmental and public health class actions. His professional experience includes policy coordination at Green Course (NGO) and employment in the legal department of the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection. Niv contributed to drafting a constitutional climate petition for the Israeli High Court of Justice (HCJ 7063/23 Green Course v. The Government of Israel) and founded the Law & Environment Student Club at the Hebrew University. Niv was the first-place winner in the National Hackathon on climate justice policy for his Progressive and Just Carbon Tax proposal. He currently hosts the Hebrew University Center for Sustainability Podcast.

Yarden Revivo Weiss holds a B.A in education and communication from Ben Gurion University in the Negev and has work experience as an administrator and manager both in academia and in business. She worked as a volunteer counselor for the Opendoor Association.
